Field Service Technician

Reference - C543/D

Location: Durban

Salary:

R25 000 - R30 000 Basic Salary + 50% Medical aid contribution + Provident Fund + Funeral Cover + Company Vehicle (Business use only).

Reporting to the Customer Service Team Leader – Maritimes Cranes, Port Equipment & Offshore- and Ship Cranes.

 

Key Performance Areas:

  • Apply electrical, electronic, hydraulic and mechanical theory and related knowledge to test and modify operational electrical machinery and electrically controlled, electronically controlled equipment and circuitry, hydraulic circuits and components, mechanical equipment.

  • Diagnose, adjust, repair or overhaul port equipment such as Harbour Mobile Cranes, Reach Stackers, Offshore- and Ship Cranes

  • Complete assigned paperwork as to procedures. As a minimum time sheet, work report, expense report in the latest available version. Fill out all forms properly including customer’s signature where applicable.

  • Cares and maintains company tools, machines and equipment.

 

Experience:

  • Matric/NGF4

  • Earthmoving Mechanic /Auto Electrician/ Millwright

  • Preferably with a minimum of 3-5 years of Field Service, heavy hydraulics, auto electrical and mechanical fault finding experience post qualifying

  • Experience with working on Harbour Mobile Cranes, Reach Stackers, Offshore- and Ship Cranes

Responsibilities:

  • Operate machine for test, inspection, diagnoses and trouble shoot.

  • Sets the positive example in punctuality and professional demeanour by respectful communication with all levels of staff, keeping work areas clean and orderly, and promoting safety regulations and all other company programs.

  • Test mechanical products and equipment after repair or modification to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturer’s specifications.

  • Repair and replace damaged or worn parts with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) spares and OEM repaired parts.

  • Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools.

  • Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work on machines.

  • Examine parts for damage or excessive wear using relevant measuring devices.

  • Read, understand, and interpret operating manuals, parts manuals, blueprints and technical drawings.

  • Overhaul and test machines or equipment to ensure operating efficiency and safe integrity of the machine.

  • Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications.

  • Oversees the maintenance of quality standards through visual and mechanical inspection methods.

  • Promotes a safe work environment by following on site safety rules and ensuring the group and self-follow established safety procedures.

  • Oversees the handling and disposing of hazardous wastes, such as toner, oil, antifreeze, transmission fluid, auto parts cleaner, and similar material.

  • Successfully complete factory authorized training.

  • Demonstrate working knowledge of OEM Service Software (i.e. Sculi and Crane Management software).

  • Prepare for jobs by checking parts and documentation for accuracy and completeness and any possible required online safety courses (i.e. customer specific safety induction, MIST (Minimum Industry Safety Training)).

  • Complete jobs independently with as little assistance from others as possible.

  • Assist customers with troubleshooting, part and machine related questions when needed.

  • Attends training sessions as required.

  • Maintains a minimum set of tools and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required for job performance.

  • Cares and maintains company tools, machines and equipment.

  • Maintains a positive attitude and role model for the other employees to follow.

  • Maintains company service literature, and maintains a high awareness of technical changes.

  • Assumes the lead person position.

  • Trains and/or mentors others in department.

  • Refuses to carry out unsafe tasks in conflict with companies procedures or technical rules.

  • Follows the Companies Field Service policy and the company code of conduct.

  • Restrict the tasks that may be assigned.

  • Responsible for ensuring that all field service equipment is compliant with health and Safety acts.

Field Service Technician

Location: Springs, Gauteng

Salary:

Reporting to the Field Service Foreman, the Field Service Technician plans, prepares and completes repairs on mobile and crawler cranes both locally and internationally. Working safely and in accordance with LWE standards to ensure service excellence and that the company’s name and brand is held in high esteem.

​

  • Planning and preparation of organizational needs.

  • Completion of both physical and technical tasks set before you.

  • Time management skills

 

Experience:

  • Earthmoving Mechanic /Auto Electrician/ Millwright

  • At least 3 years’ experience in the Heavy machinery Field service environment or at least 4-year experience Workshop environment. Hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical and mechanical experience is a necessity, and the reading of drawings is a must.

  • Trade test certificate in Mechanical or Electrical

  • Experience with working on Mobile and or Crawler Cranes

  • Correct care and handling of equipment supplied.

  • Following instructions

  • Booking out and blue slipping of spare parts

  • Job planning and preparation

  • Adhering to safety regulation of Company and site

  • Obeying road traffic laws and regulations

  • Managing of assistant

  • Working to LWE Standard

  • Time keeping and feedback reports.

  • Assist with afterhours support in line with the standby roster.

  • Attend and Pass LWE Training

High Voltage Technician

Location: Northern Cape (Gamsberg)

Candidate must be from the following areas: Pofadder, Aggeneys or Springbok.

Salary:

R35 000 - R45 000 Basic Salary + 50% Medical aid contribution + Provident Fund + Funeral Cover + Company Vehicle (Business use only) + Other benefits.

Reporting to the Depot Manager (Gamsberg) candidate will be given certain maintenance or repair tasks. The technician will ensure that all HEX and OHT will be repaired and maintained. The mechanical or electrical repairs are performed and executed according to OEM specification standards and within the safe work procedures. The technician will work in line with the health and safety act set by government.

​

Key Performance Areas:

  • Repairing and maintaining equipment according to OEM standards with no re-work.

  • Troubleshooting (fault-finding) on Mining HEX and OHT equipment.

  • Following safe work procedures as per health and safety acts.

 

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12/NQF 4; and/or N3 Certificate in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering

  • Trade Tested Electrician/Millwright

  • Qualified High Voltage Electrician

  • Current HV switching certificate.

  • 4-5 years’ experience on Earthmoving Equipment

Responsibilities:

  • Carry out inspection and report on all equipment which Shall be submitted to the factory (PIR)

  • Assemble machines to the best of your ability.

  • Carry out PAR reports.

  • Health and safety

  • Carry out service, troubleshooting and repairs as per OEM standards and requirements.

  • To complete the repairs of any defect found

  • Complete service reports, for sign off.

  • Timely complete all relevant requirements, including, service jobs, maintenance and technical repairs.

  • Downloading of software

  • Work according to OEM standard repair times

  • Use and understand diagnostic equipment.

  • Choose alternative ways of carrying out tasks (innovation)

  • Operate electrical and mechanical equipment pertaining to the job, i.e. power tools

  • Ensure integrity of all related tools of trade

  • Work according to occupational health, safety and environment requirements

  • Supervision of employees where applicable, artisan assistant, apprentice

  • Co-ordination and collaboration of employees working on the same equipment.

  • Helping where needed and carrying out any reasonable request.

  • Needs to attend training courses, online and in the training center.

  • Will work shifts which do not correspond to normal shift times

  • Required to work overtime at very short notice.

  • On occasions have to sleep out of town away from home.

  • Report to Depot Manager of all equipment defects

  • Compiling of parts lists, mechanical and electrical side.

  • Identifying of components

  • Prepare and submit time sheets, kept up to date at all times.

  • Driving, using, maintaining and taking care of field service vehicle

  • Completing of warranty and upgrade claims

  • Submitting warranty, SEU components with correct tagging and plugging

  • Collaborate closely with technical department to resolve technical issues

  • Provide training to apprentices on how to identify and resolve issues, repairs, maintaining, etc

  • Keep Good Housekeeping.

  • Punctual time keeping.

Skills:

  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English

  • Candidate must have experience working with Earthmoving machines that require programming, automation, etc.

  • The Applicant must have MINING industry experience.

  • The applicant must have Electric/Hydraulic fault-finding skills.

  • The applicant must be able to read schematics.

  • Mechanical skills

  • Welding skills

  • Demonstrates a technical aptitude and ability.

  • Communication skills to build strong relationship with superiors and fellow employees.

  • Ability to work under pressure.

  • Ability to identify potential hazards.

 

Additional requirements:

  • Ability to obtain and maintain Local Mine induction and access.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain Local Mine HSE Certification

  • Ability to obtain and maintain medical fitness certificate.

  • Must have the ability to use common sense.

  • Standby will be required.
